The sadhus who could not stand the glamour of Bhagatji started protesting. They wanted to put a ban on Bhagatji's movement in the Satsang .Bhagatji at times said, "I am possessed by Swaminarayan." Once a sadhu remarked, "Is God an evil spirit that He would possess you?"
"If the ghost has a power to possess, do you think God hasn't?" explained Bhagatji, "God does not possess any Tom, Dick and Harry. He possesses those who have immense faith and love for Him." Then he gave the illustrations of the divine love (premlakshana bhakti) of the Gopis towards the Lord to substantiate his argument. He declared, "Due to the blessings of Swami I continually enjoy the divine bliss of Shriji Maharaj. Those who follow me are granted that immortal happiness."
Once Bhagatji was the guest of Rao-saheb of Petlad. Rao-saheb's bodyguard was a Muslim. He was a great aspirant of God. He came to offer his respects to Bhagatji. Bhagatji, intuitively read his thoughts and talked to him about the four types of satpurush as depicted in the Koran. The body-guard experienced divine peace in his presence. Vignandasji and other saints were present at that time. Bhagatji pointed towards the saints and said, "Scold these sadhus as they are pestering me forever."
The Jamadar then addressed the saints. "You are all fakirs
of Khuda (servants of God) and here is Khuda himself. Therefore even if he beats you with a cane or throws shoes at you, you should follow him wherever he leads you."
Hearing this Bhagatji started laughing. At Petlad, Bhagatji blessed the saints and devotees with the happiness of his company, prasadi and darshan.
When Bhagatji returned to Nadiad after seeing Acharya Maharaj at Surat, he told the saints, "Be prepared for the calamities ahead. Overcome your ego and bear any opposition with patience."
