FLOOD RELIEF WORK BY BAPS
50 BAPS
SADHUS AND 2100 VOLUNTEERS
TO CLEAN THE T.P. SCHEME 10 AREAS OF ADAJAN IN SURAT

From
20 BAPS flood relief centres in Amdavad, Atladra,
Bochasan, Nadiad, Mahesana, Mahelav, Piplav, Bharuch,
Gadhada, Gandhinagar, Navsari, Surendranagar, Valsad,
Sankari, Gondal, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Bhadra, Bhavnagar
and Mumbai, over 183,905 food packets and 250,000
water pouches were prepared for the flood-afflicted
in the past one week. In addition, meals have been
provided to over 11,500 people and numerous families
have been given essential household supplies. BAPS’
relief work will continue until the situation resolves.
Despite
the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir, Surat, being flooded,
the sadhus and volunteers joined in the flood relief
work. Joining the army in boats and other vehicles,
the volunteers helped to distribute food packets,
milk and water. They also recovered seven dead bodies
and helped three pregnant women and other ill persons
to hospital for treatment. Using ropes, emergency
aid was provided to many flood victims.
In Surat,
BAPS sadhus and volunteers have distributed 17,000
milk pouches, 250,000 water pouches, 183,905 food
packets, 5 tons of milk powder and 500 40kg family
packs (each containing flour, rice, sugar, salt, spices
and oil).
From
3.00 pm on Monday, 14 August 2006, 50 BAPS sadhus
and 2100 volunteers will begin to clean the area of
Jayambe Road, Badrinarayan Mandir and the Adajan Road
River Front situated in the T.P. Scheme No. 10 region.
Also,
the Sanstha has brought in 6 medical vans and experienced
doctors to treat the flood victims.
The Sanstha’s
relief centres are continually sending aid to Surat,
either directly or through the Sanstha’s headquarters
in Amdavad and the Collector’s office.
In Atladra,
Pramukh Swami Maharaj has prayed for the victims of
the flood and for an early end to the difficulties.
