April 19, 2011

On Tuesday, April 19, 2011, the BAPS Campus Sabha initiative in the Philadelphia area was awarded “Outstanding Cultural Program of the Year” by the University of the Sciences.  The award is part of an annual ceremony highlighting and commending students, faculty, and organizations that have gone “above and beyond” in various endeavors.  Presented by Dr. Walter Perry, Associate Dean of Students at the University, the award recognized the efforts of the BAPS Diwali celebration event, “Enligh10ment: A Journey from Darkness to Light”, organized by the group on November 10, 2010 in at the University.  The Diwali event saw over 400 students attend and enjoy the cultural program as well as one of the largest Annakut presentations prepared by students with over 275 items.

The campus sabha initiative, which has become known as “Sabha in the City”, has been successfully running for the last seven years with strong participation from local students.  The University itself has also offered its full support of the initiative and encourages them to continue to host such cultural events.
