Shriji Maharaj describes the nature of the wise and the foolish, “If a person is wise and has noticed an inappropriate swabhav within himself, and while harbouring an intense aversion towards it, is continually endeavouring to overcome that swabhav, then when he sees that very same swabhav in another sadhu, he develops an aversion towards that sadhu. On the other hand, a fool not only does not overcome his own swabhavs, but when he sees that same swabhav in another sadhu, he perceives flaws in that sadhu. Such a person should be considered a fool.”

Shriji Maharaj explains how to attain spiritual knowledge, “Gnan arises if one listens to the Upanishads such as the Bruhadaranya Upanishad, Chhandogya Upanishad, Kathavalli Upanishad, etc.; the Bhagvad Gita; the Vasudev Mahatmya; the Vyas Sutras and other scriptures from a Satpurush.”

Shriji Maharaj elaborates upon how maya has a different impact on a satsangi and kusangi, “Maya, in the form of the antahkaran, does not cause misery to a person who thoroughly understands the greatness of God and has an absolutely firm refuge of God; but it does cause misery to a person who does not have such a refuge. For example, a kusangi would attempt to dislodge only an irresolute satsangi, but no one would dare to dislodge a staunch satsangi. In fact, no one would be able to speak ill of Satsang in his presence. Similarly, maya, in the form of the antahkaran, would never entertain a desire to daunt a person who has a firm refuge in God. Rather, it would help his bhakti to flourish. However, maya does deflect a person who has a slight deficiency in his refuge in God and does cause him misery. Then, when that person develops a complete refuge in God, maya is not able to disturb him or cause him pain. Therefore, the answer is that if a person has such complete faith in God, maya is not capable of causing him misery.”

Shriji Maharaj clarifies the nature of evil company, “Of all the so-called evil company in the world, the company which is worse than all others is that of those who do not have bhakti towards God, or the faith in their hearts that God loves His devotees, is the master of all, is the uplifter of the wretched, and is also the redeemer of sinners.”
