The volunteers (karyakars), endeavoring for the Satsang
activities in Mumbai, performed various programs in the
    presence of Swamishri.

3-6-1999 : Thursday (Adhik Jeth Vad-9, 2055), Mumbai - Karyakar Day

  • In the evening, the volunteers (karyakars) performed small skits on the problems they face while doing Satsang activities before Swamishri and an audience of devotees. In his blessings, Swamishri stressed, "; It is true that our financial position and earnings are a source of worries. But one should not spend more than one’s income. We should balance our spendings. Sometimes when we are faced with unexpected expenditures, we should be patient, strong and endeavor to earn more. Since the cost of living is very high, the family should cut down on entertainment costs or other luxurious spendings. The children too should reduce their unnecessary academic expenditures. If all the members of the family try to understand then the financial situation will not cause anxiety and misery in your daily work..." Swamishri also talked about punctuality, sincerity in Satsang activities and teamwork.

7-6-1999 : Monday (Adhik Jeth Vad-8, 2055), Mumbai - Kishore Day

  • In the evening assembly the kishores presented a drama, ‘Our Life’, which portrayed the problems of peer pressure in Mumbai’s cosmopolitan society. To the problems of peer pressure, bad company and teasing because of tilak-chandlo, Swamishri explained, " There is no need to yield to peer pressure. One has to be strong and firm when someone offers you a cigarette or anything harmful. . . One who is morally errant will also take you on the wrong path. Don’t worry if your friendship gets dissolved... Tilak-chandlo is our mark. By doing it we are not damaging or causing pain to anyone. And neither are we forcing anyone to do it... Do we want to please God or our friends? Arjun chose God on his side, Dada Khachar too chose to please God. However, we think of weak thoughts like what will people say for me? But people may not like what you wear, where you work and how you study; so should you give it up? Similarly, we should be firm and steadfast in doing the tilak-chandlo. When you please God you attain the pleasure of everyone in the world."

11-6-1999 : Friday (Adhik Jeth Vad-12, 2055), Mumbai

  • A devotee brought his friend before Swamishri and revealed, "Swami, he has become habituated to betting on cricket matches.
" Swamishri: "It is a form of gambling."
    Devotee:"Swami, he also drinks."
Swamishri: "When you have one vice, then many more follow behind it. Do you know that because of gambling the Pandavas lost their kingdom and wife, Draupadi? It is a devastating habit, therefore give it up. You’ll become a lot more happier in life."
Swamishri’s words appealed to the young man and he pledged to give it up.
  • A senior vice-president of a software company in Mumbai came for Swamishri’s darshan. He was terribly shaken by a big theft that had happened a month back in his house. The thieves took away the jewellery, cash and valuables. "Everyone is disturbed and unhappy in the house," a friend explained to Swamishri. Swamishri pacified the vice-president, "There is no benefit in remaining distressed. What has gone has gone. It will not come back. By worrying, your health will get affected. So chant the holy name of God. Don’t worry. Everything is going to go away one day."
"But because it is gone that is why I am pained," the gentleman added. Swamishri reinforced him with spiritual understanding, "By believing that ‘I have lost it’ one feels pain. But it was not yours. If you believe this then your grief will disappear."
Swamishri blessed the gentleman and redeemed him from his mentally and emotionally paralysed state.

12-6-1999: Saturday (Adhik Jeth Vad-13, 2055), Mumbai

  • A well-wisher came for Swamishri’s darshan. He explained that because of his business hassles there were problems and unhappiness in his family. He added, "My mother says our problems have arisen the day we brought the small murti of Ghanshyam Maharaj (Lalji) in the house." Swamishri advised, "By bringing God one does not invite pain and problems. One has to go through such situations because of one’s past karmas. God does good to all. The Lalji (murti) is your only support. Pray to Him but don’t doubt Him and blame Him. He has come to make you all happy and not unhappy. That is why people remember and worship God. Otherwise why should people remember Him? When our mind is not pure then our works may not be fulfilled."
  • Every night, before Swamishri retires to bed, he invariably comes out of his room to momentarily meet the sadhus and devotees waiting for him. Today, the volunteers of the housekeeping department were standing with dustbins, brooms and sweeping materials. As soon as Swamishri came out, one of them jokingly asked, "Swami, its been a month (since we’ve been doing service in the mandir) now, so we want our wages." Then the whole team chorused like a workers’ union, "Swami, give us our wages."
Swamishri responded with humor, saying, "We should not set up a union but have unity. Our wages mean experiencing more peace within, remembering and singing God’s name and glory, progressing in our jobs or businesses and getting the pleasure and blessings of Shriji Maharaj, Shastriji Maharaj and Yogiji Maharaj.
"Even while doing our service (seva) we should do each others work, and refrain from distinctions like ‘this is mine and this is his’. By doing it with ‘samp, suhradayabhav and ekta’ Yogiji Maharaj will be pleased..."

13-6-1999 : Sunday (Adhik Jeth Vad-30, 2055), Mumbai

  • Today, when Swamishri came out before retiring to bed, he saw 20-25 balaks and kishores unhappy and crestfallen. Swamishri enquired why they were all so moodless. Someone said, "Because India was out of the world cup tournament."
Swamishri replied, "There is no need to get tensed and unhappy. We should endeavor properly and pray. What did God tell Arjun? Do your duty but don’t desire for the fruits of your action. So, one who has spiritual knowledge (jnan) always remains happy. In worldly matters, no matter whatever that happens, we should sincerely engage ourselves in Satsang and bhakti. We should not get slack in our work or in our studies.,"
"We should not get unhappy in these matters. We should not get troubled or agitated in victory and failure. Why become miserable in these matters? We should pray and try the best we can. Why become disappointed? We should not get swept away by victory and failure. Apply the thought of Sankhya - we’ve never played at all! Everything was false and temporary..."
  Gems From Swamishri :
  • When you please God, you attain the pleasure of everyone in the world.
  • A true friend is one who cautions you for your good even if it may hurt you.
  • Like a cricket ball, which returns back each time it is hit, you should never
feel bad or go away when someone scolds you, insults you or says that you are a fool.
