  • 20 April, 2000 (Chaitra Vad 2, V.S. 2056) Thursday, Mahesana
While having lunch this afternoon Swamishri emphasized the principle of honesty to the hostel students while appearing for exams: "You should not dream to 'steal' or copy in exams. Study and read daily. Don't think of passing by copying. Because when you come here (in the hostel) then you will not make efforts. If you have this motive of stealing then when you grow you will steal, and take bribes, be dishonest in your business or at work. What will you gain by stealing? You will not get peace of mind. So at present remember God and work hard…"

       The Hard Fact of Life

  • A Satsangi student called Mitul was still pained by his father's death due to cancer 1½ months back. Mitul expressed his anguish by saying that his dad was a dedicated devotee and had been doing bhajan of God, never had he taken any bribes or done any wrong to anyone. And yet why did he have to suffer and die painfully?
Swamishri consoled the broken-hearted Mitul, "It's natural to feel the pain of your father's death, but that was how he was destined to die. Tell me why do even the holy Sadhus have to suffer pain? Why did Shastriji Maharaj and Yogiji Maharaj have to suffer pain? To show us that the human body is prone to disease and one must thus bear it.
"But there must be some reason for his painful death?" Mitul asked sobbingly.
Swamishri replied, "His sins may have not been of this birth but of previous births. We have taken infinite births! So one suffers the sins from past lives in this birth and because he was a devotee he had to be made pure. So God made him suffer in this birth and freed him from his sins and thus redeemed him. There are many ways a person dies, like death in an aircraft accident, or of a disease…So your dad was destined to die in that way but his work is over here. He has gone to God's abode and now he is happier than what he was here."

  Gems From Swamishri :
  • The reason for conflicts in society and the nation is the lack of self-control in speech.
  • The roots of a tree are not a bondage. It is because of the roots there are branches, leaves, flowers and fruits. But if the roots are severed then the tree will fall down. Likewise, if the roots of character are severed then the individual will collapse.
  • If one works with discrimination then one reaps an infinite progress that is peaceful, joyful and blissful.
  • With the help of technology you will be able to see and hear that which is far but we fail to look at ourselves.
  • By having faith in our scriptures, God and His holy sadhu and accepting their teachings in the work we do, you will attain absolute success.
  • Through the confluence of one's efforts, God's grace and blessings of a holy sadhu, one achieves success in any type of work.
