    • 24 July 2002 (V.S. 2058, Ashadh sud 15) Wednesday, Bochasan. Guru Punam
The Guru Punam assembly program included speeches and bhajans on the glory and greatness of the guru.

Then Pujya Viveksagar Swami explained the glory of the guru according to the Hindu scriptures and that Swamishri
is an ideal guru. Pujya Ishwarcharan Swami spoke glowingly of Swamishri's divinity and spiritual greatness.
Swamishri then inaugurated 'Yagnapurushopanishad' - an excellent photo-memorial book on Shastriji Maharaj. After being garlanded by the senior sadhus, the assembly climaxed with Swamishri's blessings, "One goes to the guru to dispel ignorance and darkness. Despite the fact that there is light outside, one's inner self is filled with darkness. For innumerable births one has the base instincts of lust, anger, greed, jealousy, delusion, attachment, etc...
"The first guru, Vyasji, wrote the Purans and Mahabharat. Likewise, the first guru in the Swaminarayan Sampraday, Gunatitanand Swami, explained the glory of Shriji Maharaj. He revealed the true glory and work of Shriji Maharaj ...
"Today, we find that our world has progressed tremendously but we have not progressed within our inner selves. And that is why we have conflict, immorality and sin. Man has attained physical comfort and luxury, but his thoughts have become corrupt and sinful. Consequently, one cannot desire for the good of others. These corrupt feelings are due to the fact that there is no inner illumination ..."

For the first time, a blood donation camp and diagnostic camp for diabetes was held during the festival.

      Living With Swamishri :

    Stemming Moral Deterioration

    • 17 July 2002 (VS 2058, Ashadh sud 8) Wednesday, Sankari

Swamishri asked a sadhu, "While we were coming to Sankari by road there was a village near Bhatiya. What is it called?"

      "Lingad," the sadhu replied.

"Yes. We passed it. Some devotees were waiting for us, but we did not stop (because Swamishri was engrossed in reading). They must have felt bad. I will give you a letter (of apology) to give to them."

"Bapa, they will not have felt bad about it. They are true devotees," the sadhu replied.

Swamishri's concern for probably having hurt the feelings of ordinary, rural devotees is evident here. Though two days had passed since the incident had happened, Swamishri had not forgotten it during the busy volunteer training camp program. His love for the ordinary devotees is reflected here.

For Swamishri's satisfaction, the sadhu told him that he would bring the devotees for darshan.

The next day when the devotees met him, Swamishri expressed his regrets, "Forgive me. I was engrossed in reading and didn't realize immediately that you were waiting. So be happy."

The devotes replied, "Swami, we did not feel bad. In fact we were happy to have your darshan."

Swamishri then enquired everyone's name and blessed them.
      Gems From Swamishri :
    • We should worship God with the same responsibility as we do our worldly work.
