On
the evening of 1 March 2004 Swamishri was on his way from Junagadh
to Gondal. Along the route he decided to go for darshan at the Swaminarayan
Mandir in Jetpur that was off the highway. The mandir holds a special
significance because it comemorates the event where Ramanand Swami
had appointed Sahajanand Swami as his successor and head of his fellowship.
On entering the town, a local piliceman told Swamishri and the six
sadhus not to drive ahead because of a Tajiya procession (in honor
of Mohorram festival celebrated by Muslims) that was on its way. Since
the street was narrow there was no way a car could get through. Then
Swamishri enquired if there was another road to the mandir. The policemen
gave directions of a peripheral road. Since Swamishri desired to have
darshan of Thakorji and the pilgrim place his car and another car
with sadhus eventually arrived by a small hill. A couple of local
Muslims stopped Swamishri's car and told him that his car would not
be able to go through the narrow lane. So, Swamishri decided to walk
to the mandir. Despite his age of 83 years and the fact that there
was only one devotee with him as a guide, Swamishri started walking
through the lane. After 15 minutes Swamishri reached the mandir and
patiently did darshan of and performed prostrations to Thakorji. Thereafter,
the only way back to the car was to walk down the same route. Luckily
there was a car in the mandir compound, and after requesting the driver
and passengers, Swamishri climbed into the front seat. The driver
drove through the same road and dropped Swamishri to his car.
Despite all difficulties and odds, Swamishri's effort to have darshan
of Thakorji reflects his devotion to God and glory for a pilgrim place. |
