The North American Mahila Wing of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sansthacelebrated Janmashtami, the birth of Shri Krishna, through an enlightening cultural program themed, “BhavBhini Bhakti.”  The program explored the praiseworthy devotion that Shri Krishna’s devotees, including Mirabai, Narsinh Mehta, and theGopis, had for Him.  These devotees came from all walks of life and selflessly surrendered themselves at the feet of Shri Krishna;in return, Shri Krishna showered His devotees with love and granted them moksha.

The entire program was planned and executed by the youths. The elementary and middle school students (balikas) performedtraditional dances in memory of Shri Krishna’s birth, while high school and college aged students (kishoris) performedenlightening skits, depicting the love between Shri Krishna and His devotees.Even though Mirabai faced adverse circumstances, her faith in Shri Krishna never wavered; she lovingly offered her prayers to Him. These skits, applicable to our lives today, depicted the proper medium to offer pure devotion to Bhagwan and His ideal devotee.

The program concluded with an informative speech which described Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s devotion for Bhagwan Swaminarayan and his love for devotees. The finale of the evening, marking the birth of Shri Krishna was celebrated with the arti followed by the swinging of the cradle by all the devotees, with the traditional devotional singing of 'Sona-naboljhuleNand-kishore'.
