The inauguration of Swaminarayan Vidyapith, a state-of-the-art English
Medium Girls Residential School in Karamsad, was one of the highlights
of the 5-day festival. Shri L. K. Advani, Home Minister of India, inaugurated
the school in the presence of Pramukh Swami Maharaj on Saturday, 2 December
2000. The opening marked a new chapter in the socio-spiritual activities
of the BAPS. The school will become functional from April 2001.
After the opening, an assembly was held at the Swaminarayan Nagar where
more than 10,000 devotees and guests had gathered.
In the evening a unique Women's Convention entertained and enlightened
the audience with bhajans, traditional dances, dramas, ballet and speeches.
