As long as there is igorance one has to suffer the cycles of birth and death. This ignorance means 'I'ness and 'Mine'ness ...
"The body requires food to survive. Similarly, to 'survive', the atma's food is 'bhakti' for God. Through 'bhakti' it acquires strength and grows spiritually.   Living with Swamishri :

12 April 2001 (V.S. 2057, Chaitra Vad 5) Thursday, Dubai

  • The Best of Devotees
A few verses from the biography of Bhagwan Swaminarayan - 'Haricharitramrut Sagar' by Adharanand Swami - were read before Swamishri: "There is no greater sinner among devotees than one who speaks ill of another devotee. He is the best of devotees who sees his own faults."
On hearing this verse a devotee remarked, "Bapa, this is very difficult to avoid. We see faults in others and not in our ownselves."
Swamishri replied, "Because we fail to see our faults it has been so instructed. When you find fault in someone then you should introspect whether you've got it yourself. Someone may have lust whereas you may have greed. Someone may have jealousy whereas you may have ego. Our faults are written on our back whereas we see others' on their chest ..."
"But Swamishri, it is only through divine grace that one can overcome this," a devotee added.
"Yes. Only through grace can one realize this. That is why it has been said,
'Hari krupa jab hovat he, tab sujat apna dosh' (Only through God's grace can one see one's own faults).
When we do 'seva' to please the Guru only, only then does one's base nature dissolves ..."
  Gems From Swamishri :
  • Riches bring fame but it increases the inclinations of faultfinding, enmity and ego.
  • By slowly bringing garbage in a clean home, the entire house will become full. Similarly, by looking at faults in others one will become full of faults.
